American Museum of Natural History

The kids (Jayden and Kaylee) are up this weekend and we originally planned on going to the Liberty Science Center, but it is being renovated and they are open in another location, but I don't think every exhibit was open Henry and I went with the kids and Eric to the American Museum of Natural History. We caught three shows, Cosmic Collisions, Ride Around the World and the Butterfly Conservatory.

Cosmic Collisions is played in the Hayden Planetarium and narrated by Robert Redford. It's a space show that Jayden and Kaylee had seen once before but Jayden loved it so much, he wanted to see it again. After watching it, it made me worry about an asteroid coming to earth, but we supposedly have a plan in case that happens. The Hayden Planetarium is pretty cool, Eric wants it in his living room.

Ride Around the World is shown in the IMAX theater. It's about cowboys all around the world. Kaylee fell asleep and Jayden was very fidgety during the show. Other kids were fidgety too, the girl in front of me kept on standing up. I would not recommend it for kids.

The Butterfly Conservatory was not a show, but something that is like a greenhouse that is very warm with plants everywhere and butterflies flying around. One landed on my head and a guy had passed over a butterfly that was on his hand over to Kaylee's hand. We got lots of pictures of it.

We looked at the mammals exhibit as well as the dinosaurs. But there was so much that we missed. You really need a couple of days to go through the whole museum. And some parts of the museum was very warm while other parts were a little breezy, so bring a jacket.

Nora’s Wedding

++Edit: I took the photos out.++

Yesterday was a perfect day for a wedding. It was warm, with no visible clouds, and a slight breeze. The drive wasnt bad at all. It took about an hour, including a stop to get gas and breakfast. (It was Steve's idea! He complained he was hungry!) Alan & Nora used the same judge that presided over Oda & HG's wedding. It was a quick ceremony. Steve & I got there about 10 mins prior to the ceremony starting. But we werent the latest ones. Technically, we werent late. The invite said 11:30am. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

Cocktail hour was an event NOT to be missed. There was a station for sushi. Rows upon rows of rolls. One could swim in it if one wanted to. It wasnt the generic chinese buffet rolls either. I didnt make a stop (I didnt have to- a platter was left at my table courtesy of HG- he had to take family photos), so I dont know exactly what was there. Then there was a station for chilled seafood, which consisted of whole lobsters cut in halves and shrimp cocktail. Steve went to one of the hot cooked food stations and got himself lamb chops and steak. There was another station of cooked food, but I dont remember what it was. I now regret not eating much at that time. That car ride, although it wasnt bad at all, got me a little sick. We were then ushered into the dining area and waited, with some games and dancing in between, for our entrees. Man, them old people know how to cut up a rug. Lots of music for the waltz and some other old music that these folks knew how to dance to. And not just a little two-step. It was real deal, show dancing. They were my entertainment before the entree. Dessert was excellent, too. Chocolate fondue, ice cream & apple pie, some type of cake, cheesecakes, tarts, and fruits. All in all, it was several hours of yummy deliciousness!

Oda made me get up to catch the bouquet, and I tried to hide. Many a'times. When I saw her coming, I'd run the other way and hide behind someone. Of course, she saw me, and pointed. So I ended up standing at the back of the single females, and hoping that Nora couldnt throw far. It was a good throw, but the stupid chandelier was in the way, and it hit off of that. A little girl picked up the flowers, but was forced to give it one of the bridesmaids. Steve didnt even bother going to catch the garter. By the way, I'm glad only the older folks danced. I'd be ashamed to watch these younger kids embarrass themselves on the dance floor. I dont think many of them knew how to dance.....including, sad to say, the groom and his brother...

Nora's dresses were amazing. My favorite was her wedding dress, of course. Although the red one was real nice too. I thought the pink one was pretty, but not as nice as the others. Oda had a very nice dress too. Very provocative. I dont think I have a picture of her back, but if I find one, I'll post it up. Let's just say, if I didnt have an imagination, I didnt need one! Haha. Okay, it wasnt bad. A fat chick wouldnt have been able to pull that off, I tell ya'! The men looked regular. Steve, of course, looked the best with his peach-colored shirt. He didnt take his jacket off so you couldnt see that it was short-sleeved. I was able to sneak a photo in, though. icon smile Noras Wedding

Labor Day Weekend in Macungie

It's Labor Day Weekend and all the New York Sham's trekked down to Macungie to celebrate the long weekend and to celebrate the Jayden and Kaylee's birthdays.

The first night there we played Trivial Pursuit 1990's Edition. My first question had to do with Patty Hearst. I don't feel terrible not knowing the answer because they wanted to know what name she used when she was kidnapped, it was Tania. This information was not in the normal literature that Hearst provided me on my first day. The game went on forever and we finally ended without a winner, though Steve declared himself the winner.

Day two in Macungie consisted of birthday games for the kids. Ben had "Fan the Kipper" where everybody makes a fish and then you have to fan it in a race. You can see at one point that Kaylee is stepping on Ben's fish and of course the adults were more into it then the kids. Ben also decorated the dining room for the birthday dinner. Henry and Kaylee helped make the birthday cake while Dada and Steve made the chocolate mousse for the cake, which was very delicious. Perry also tried to take a nap, but Henry woke him up with the drum set that Perry had gotten the kids one Christmas. The kids also got into it too. Time was spent in front of a laptop playing a video game. Another game we played was Marco Polo in Dada's living room. We really got into it and we're very lucky nothing was broken, except a vacuum cleaner was knocked over. When it was time for the birthday dinner, we had grilled hamburgers, Italian sausages with peppers and onions, pasta salad, regular salad, chicken wings, pineapples and mushrooms. And of course the birthday cake, which Kaylee seemed to enjoy more than Jayden, Jayden was drinking his Pepsi.

Day three, we went to the Great Allentown Fair. There were rides for kids and adults, games to win prizes, lots and lots of food, a pig race and much more. Henry played the bottle toss game. When we went to Great Adventure for his 25th birthday, he won one of those huge prizes (a huge gorilla with two little gorillas on each of his shoulders, we couldn't fit it in our trunk and had to put it in our back seat, squishing Steve and Ben for the rest of the ride back), but he didn't win this time. Perry played the game where you have to throw ping pong balls in little fish bowls. He won a fish. We stopped to watch the pig race, but couldn't see much from where we were standing. I think Pig #2 won. And of course we had some food there. Henry got fresh squeezed lemonade that wasn't a bit tart. We had kettlecorn, corn dogs, deep fried cauliflower and cotton candy. When we got back, we tried playing catch with the kids, but in the end, it was just the adults playing catch. Dinner consisted of some of the leftovers, some fresh chicken wings and a spinach, mango and avocado salad with grilled beef on top, very yummy! The adults ended the night with Texas Hold 'Em (Henry won) and a game of Cranium. It looked like Dada and Perry were going to win, but Henry and I were able to pull an upset and win. Sorry to Ben and Steve. After Dada went to bed, Perry read out most of Data Head questions and I think we finished the rest of them Sunday morning. We're going to need to pick up the booster pack for the next time we play.

And so our Labor Day weekend has ended and most of us are getting ready to go back to work tomorrow and a couple of us are getting ready to start school tomorrow. Back to the real world...
